As one of the first existent villains in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, Maximillion Pegasus went a long style in setting up the series for its arguably more than compelling bad guys. While he was no pushover when it came to dueling, his strategy largely relied on the knowledge he attained through using the Millennium Eye and not through innate skills.

Pegasus would later continue to denounce his evil ways, being something of an ally towards the end of the originalYu-Gi-Oh! serial and making a cameo advent inGX to put Crowler and Bonaparte in their place. His graphic symbol in the manga, while mostly staying the same in the anime, has a few differences that drastically alter how he should have been portrayed in the following series.

x His Other Name

Most of the characters inYu-Gi-Oh! accept slightly different names in the manga and Japanese dub than they do in the English dub of the anime. In Pegasus' case, his original proper name was Pegasus J. Crawford in a strange case of his former given name becoming his surname. While unusual, it could simply be a case of translation, as people in Japanese culture are more often referred to by their family proper name rather than their given name.

9 His Deck

Pegasus' signature deck has e'er remained largely the same between the anime and manga, with a stiff focus on goofy Toon Monsters as well every bit the dissimilarity of the Eyes Monsters that combine with his Relinquished Ritual Monster. Between his duels in both iterations of the character, he plays nearly the verbal aforementioned cards, though some new ones are added, including Flying Elephant, Killer Needle, and Sun Shower.

8 His Family unit

Yako Tenma from the Yugioh R manga

In the anime, it appears that Pegasus' only family unit was his wife, who tragically passed away at a immature age and whose decease was the catalyst for the events of Duelist Kingdom. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga, his family is far more extensive, though they are never shown in the anime.

Pegasus' manga analogue has four adopted sons: Yakko Tenma, Gekko Tenma, Depre Scott, and Richie Merced. While all of his sons proved to exist decent players in their own correct, Yakko and Gekko come up the closest to existence every bit practiced at the game as their adoptive male parent.

7 Cecelia's Name

Cecilia and Pegasus meet in Yugioh

Like her short lived married man, Cecelia'due south name was inverse when moving from the page to the screen, though her dorsum story remained largely the same. In the manga, too as the Japanese dub, Cecelia's name was Cyndia instead and, similar her anime counterpart, was instrumental in Pegasus non only wanting to acquire Kaiba Corp's Solid vision applied science, but also the Millennium Middle and so that he could bring her back to life in one form or another.

6 The Millennium Eye

Yu-Gi-Oh Anime Maximillion Pegasus Millennium Eye Reveal

Early chapters of Yu-Gi-Oh!, particularly those which were turned into Flavor 0 of the anime, were dark in comparison to how the series would later be shown. One example that is particularly grim compared to the anime version is Pegasus being tested past the Millennium Eye. In the anime, it is simply pressed against his caput by Shadi and it magically replaces his left eye. In the manga, however, his centre is first cut out by servants before the Millennium Eye is forced into his ocular cavity instead.

5 Motivation For Taking Over Kaiba Corp

Kaiba summons Blue Eyes against Pegasus

In the anime, Pegasus set the stage for every other villain in the serial to desire to collect all of the Millennium Items for one reason or another, with him wanting them to bring Cecelia back to life properly alongside Kaiba Corp'due south technology. In the manga, however, he just wanted to create a version of Cecelia that couldn't die in hologram form. This is why, in the manga at least, Pegasus has made a Duel Monsters card with a painting of Cecilia on it.

4 The Pb Up To His Duel With Yugi

Yugi vs Pegasus in Duelist Kingdom

In the lead up to the finals of Duelist Kingdom, Yugi and Joey have to duel for the right to face up off against Pegasus then that Kaiba, Mokuba, and Yugi's grandpa can exist freed from the cards they take been imprisoned in. While this made for a great duel and showed only how far Joey had come as a player, this duel never happened in the manga.

Pegasus knew ahead of time that Yugi intended to requite the prize money to Joey if he won the duel between them, and then decided that their duel was completely unnecessary and declared that Yugi should go direct into the finals regardless.

3 Keith's Penalty Game

YuGiOh Bandit Keith

Afterwards Joey defeats Bandit Keith in their semi-finals duel, despite Keith'due south experience equally a role player besides every bit his insistence on adulterous, Pegasus banishes Keith from Duelist Kingdom by throwing him into the ocean. He would return in the following season to duel Yugi, only he wasn't then lucky in the manga. Afterwards Pegasus admits that he knew he was cheating the whole time, Keith is forced into a Shadow Game, turning his hand into a gun and forcing him to play Russian Roulette in a cruel lesson that wouldn't be out of place in Flavor 0 ofYu-Gi-Oh!.

2 His Appearance in GX

Pegasus duels both Boneparte and Crowler in Yugioh GX

While many aspects of Yu-Gi-Oh! stayed relatively the same between the manga and the anime,GX took a very different arroyo. The follow-up serial to the originalYu-Gi-Oh! takes the full general premise, setting, and characters, but does vastly different things with those characters, ane beingness Pegasus. The creator of Duel Monsters never appeared in the GX manga, largely because of i consequence in the originalYu-Gi-Oh! manga that was vastly different to its anime retelling.

1 His Connected Beingness

Bakura takes the Millennium Eye from Pegasus

Later he is defeated by Yugi, Pegasus retreats to his room at the top of his castle, where he is confronted by Bakura and challenged to a Shadow Game. While this normally could have been a fairly even lucifer, Bakura hands wins as Pegasus is worn out from his Shadow Game with Yugi. In the anime, Bakura removes the Eye from Pegasus' head and claims it for himself. In the manga, he brutally murders Pegasus before ripping the Heart from its socket.
